The instructor is Bill Higginson, but who is the bowler?

  • On 11th & 12th October 2005, Webmaster received e-mails from Peter Liversidge:

    Steve,

    I have found ths picture amongst my father's papers. It shows the 'class' of masters from the Prince of Wales and Duke of York schools who attended an M.C.C. youth coaching course in November 1962. The picture was, I think, taken in the gym at the PoW. I recognise only 2 of the participants: seated second from left is D.S. (David) Hogge, and my father (Bill Liversidge) is standing third from left. It may offer some fun to others visitors to the site trying to identify the other staff from both schools.

    I have my father's M.C.C. Certificate which states that he had "satisfied the Examiners of his knowledge of group coaching techniques and of his ability to teach the fundamentals of the game."

    Rosie Hogge, David's widow, has provided three more names for the cricket photo, all PoW masters:
  • Hugh Cowie, seated 3rd from left (in the blazer)
  • Cec Burton, standing extreme right
  • Freddie Hill, seated extreme right (Freddie was I think an ex-fighter pilot during the war)
    There is one more face that she thinks she recognises but the name escapes her for the moment.
    All the others are probably DoY masters (and therefore ought to remain utterly anonymous on the Old Cambrian website!!!)

  • On 25th November 2005, Webmaster received an e-mail from Harry Hesketh:

    Some how this photo came to me, and I can add other names. The instructer is Bill Higginson - MCC instructor brought out by the Kongonis. He followed Bill Watkins who had been in Kenya the previous 13 winters.
    Harry Hesketh [Duko] - that's me sitting second from the right and behind me is John Bieneman [also Duko].
    I can confirm Bill Liversidge, John Packwood, David Hogge and Hugh Cowie.
