Note from Webmaster:
Originally, this page was captioned "School Rugby 1st XV playing Duke of York - 1967", but then comments were received to suggest this was not correct.
Geoff Jones (Grigg 1962-1966) wrote in on 8th October 2003:
I've just been looking at the photos on the web site and I'm pretty sure
that the photo entitled "POW Rugby v DOY - 1967" is in fact a photo
of a game in which I played in 1966 against Rift Valley Academy. The man
in the no.15 shirt is Chris Bird. The shirts had been bought to replace
the old worn out ones and the only colours available in Nairobi at short
notice were all white with a green band. For some reason we were given
shirts numbered the wrong way round, I played full back wearing 1. Unfortunately I cannot
remember the name of the guy jumping but it's a pretty good example of how it used to be done
before 'lifting' became the norm.
Michael Griffin (Fletcher 1963-4, Nicholson 1964-6) e-mailed on 23rd Jan 2005:
Geoff is correct about the 1966 RVA game. The picture comes from the 1966 Impala, page 124. The jumper's name is Mike
Griffin (Nicholson). To his left is Kendray (Fletcher). And to the right of Kendray, I believe is King (Hawke?).
Pages 116 and 117 give the list of the team and opposite page, the team photo.
