E-mail from Chris Lyle on 23rd December 2006:
Veitch, Bundred, Schwentafsky, Broad, Shaylor, both Roberts, Thomas, Pereira, Broome, McFarnell and Bologna played for
Combined Schools. Freddie Schwentafsky, an extraordinary sports all-rounder, actually played on the wing for the full
East Africa team that year against a Barbarians side on its way to South Africa, scoring a try in the corner!
I record that Veitch, Thomas, Pereira, Neil Roberts, and Ball were from Clive House. I managed to get the cushy job as
regular Touch Judge, probably because I was from Clive, as was of course Coach Ken Fyfe. I was unable to play anything
that year since I had a torn ACL from an adult game during the holidays, which has bugged me ever since but did not
stop me from playing rugby at university and for several clubs afterwards, ultimately for the Town of Mount Royal
RFC here in Quebec, where I was President of the Club for a while. I played for the MOB (Montreal Old Boys) until I was 50.
E-mail from Ted Ashwood on 8th February 2007:
The photo was taken on Saturday 23rd June 1962 prior to playing the Duke of York School. We drew 3 - 3.
