Due to dwindling numbers
attending the traditional Friday evening dinner, for the first time
we experimented with holding a reunion lunch on a Saturday, and on
balance it was a great success seeing an increase to 75 attending.
Of course, the new time for the meal does not suit everyone, but
there was an overwhelming number of “satisfied customers” who voted
to keep with the Saturday lunch format for next year.
The continuing global
financial recession continued to take its toll, with fewer 'old
boys' deciding not to take long journeys to attend the main Old
Cambrian Society global event. However, we did have had Old
Cambrians from as far away as South Africa, Canada, Kenya, and
various European countries.
Old Cambrian Society Secretary, Steve Le Feuvre (Clive 1970-5),
acted as Master of Ceremonies for the day, and Host for the event
was once again RAF Club member Alan Murdoch (Rhodes 1945-50).
Grateful thanks was expressed to Steve and Alan for organising such
a successful gathering, which gave Old Cambrians the opportunity to
see old school friends, and reminisce with them, some not having
seen each other for 50+ years!!
Old
Cambrians gathered from 12noon in the Club Bar, and the lunch took
place in the very grand Ballroom. Following the meal, the bar
downstairs filled up again, and more reminiscing continued until 5pm
when everyone headed home or to on to other venues to continue
catching up with friends they had met at the lunch.
