Ontario Reunion Luncheon
Held on Sunday 14th Nov 2010 at The HOST – Fine Indian Restaurant, Mississauga, Ontario.
(Report by Dave Allen & Photos by Hal Oliver)
In November 2010, webmaster Steve Le Feuvre was in Toronto to attend the Royal Winter Agricultural Fair. On Sunday
November 14th Old Cambrians in Ontario organized a reunion in his honour at the Host Indian restaurant in Mississauga.
The event was organized by Dave Allen and Zahir Dharsee.
The reunion drew approximately 35-40 Old Cambrians and guests. Over a delicious Indian buffet lunch, Old Cambrians
reminisced and caught up about their old East African school days and lives after those days. Webmaster Steve updated
the group on the latest developments within the Old Cambrian Society and the society's trust fund set up to aid
the school and scholarships for some of the less fortuneatel students. Steve also talked about the Old Cambrian
(UK) 50th anniversary dinner to be held in London in April 2011.
Dr Everett Igobwa, who has background in music and now teaches at Carlton University in Ottawa, gave an update on
the Nairobi golf tournament and his initiative to provide the school band with musical instruments from Canada
and eventually help build the band into a full orchestra that would befit the reputation of Nairobi School/Prince of
Wales School.
A former student, Njaga Mucheru, now living in the USA has authored a book titled 'Patch ' (published in September
2010 in the U.S.) on life in the school which he generously provided for a raffle the proceeds of which are to
go the the school trust fund. The raffle raised Can$85 which was gratefully accepted by the webmaster to add to
the school trust fund. An additional book will be raffeled at the next meeting in London. So thanks to Mucheru
for donating the books. The book was won by Brittny Nyangor, who with her mother Esther Otieno, were guests of
the Allens.
Finally, Dorian Baxter (aka the Rev Elvis Priestly), gave a vote of thanks to the webmaster, the organizers and
all who participated. Dorian also introduced his new fiancée Sara Cameron to the assembled guests.
