Hanging Rock is said to have been a key gathering place for people since the beginnings of human habitation in the
Macedon Ranges. We are told that the Rock was a key natural feature and a sacred place for local Aboriginal
people. It was thought to be a boundary point of five tribes and a site for mediations, initiation ceremonies,
corroborees and dispute resolution. With respect, we too thought it an appropriate site for Australian Old Cambrians
to meet.
In recent times, this was where the movie, "Picnic at Hanging Rock" was made based on the book by Australian author,
Joan Lindsay.
