Two Old Cambrians - Naziru Hirani (Junior House 1969 and Nicholson 1970-72) now living in San Diego, California and Zahir
Shamshudin Dharsee (Junior House 1969 and Hawke 1970-74) of Mississauga, Ontario and an honorary Old Cambrian, actually
an Old Yorkist, Abdul Merali, (Thomson 1969-74) of Vancouver, B.C. were invited to attend a secretly organised surprise
50th birthday party for a fellow Old Cambrian and classmate, Amin Poonja (Junior House 1969 and Hawke 1970 - 1973) now
living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. All four classmates were also in the same grade classes at the Aga Khan Primary
School in Nairobi, Kenya.
The birthday party was secretly organised by Amin Poonja's wife, Nasrin over the weekend of March 24th-26th 2006, and the
classmates and their partners were privileged to join members of the Poonja family for a fun filled weekend. The events
of the weekend, especially the surprise arrival of the classmates, and their partners, at the Poonja residence in
Edmonton on Friday, March 24th caught Amin Poonja completely off guard and surprised the "hell out of him". A luncheon
was held for family members and the classmates at Amin's house on Saturday afternoon, and that evening an intimate dinner
party was held at the Khazana Restaurant in Edmonton for the whole group. Many in the group were meeting after absences
of over 30 years so it was an excellent occasion to reconnect and reminisce. In all, everyone present enjoyed the picture
perfect weekend thoroughly.
The classmates plan to meet again in San Diego, California in October 2006 at a reunion being planned and organised by
Naziru Hirani and Rosy Suleman for former classmates who attended either the Aga Khan Primary School, Nairobi and any
other Kenyan schools such as Prince of Wales/Nairobi School, Duke of York/Lenana, Delamere Girls/State House Road and
others.
