Athletics (Ian MacFarlane - 1952?)
I believe this is Ian MacFarlane, outstanding in track and field. Maybe
1952?
(Slight dispute over the spelling....was it MacFarlane or McFarlane?)
The guy behind him with the notepad is his Dad, who was his trainer. I think his Mum was big in
T&F too, and that his sister was as outstanding at the Boma, as he was with us. Everyone did
the "scissors" until he showed up with his "western roll", and swept the record books. I seem to
remember that his Dad was good at pole vault - Caledonian Games, which took place on the
land between PE Way and Hospital Hill (Caledonian Sports Club - later moved to Woodley Estate), which later became Universiy of Nairobi sports grounds.
