Prince of Wales School Band on the Quad - 1939
Photo & text supplied by Cynthia McCrae (née Astley) and Alastair McCrae (Rhodes 1943-1946)
- originating from the photo albums of Bernard Astley (Headmaster 1937-1945)
Text by Alastair McCrae: This is a photo of the 'Bugle Band' - note there are none of the usual brass instruments - i.e. cornets, trombone,
euphonium which were used for the full band. The bugle band was fielded more frequently than the full band including,
if I remember correctly, every Thursday at Retreat.
Text by Peter Hays: Phil Abrams is the Drum Major, and you can see "Randy" Anderson's wood-work building in the background
This original scan of the photo was supplied by Hilary Richards (daughter of Phil Abrams)
(and passed on to Webmaster by Peter Hays)
