Willem (Willie) van Dyk

Nickname: Willie
House: Junior/Hawke
Year: 1960-1961

I have fond memories of the times at school, and although it was strict with discipline being enforced by the prefects who, especially in Junior House, could make your life quite miserable, and being Afrikaans-speaking did not help, except when we had to play rugby! I played rugby for the Junior Colts and all the Junior house teams in the other sports.

Having to do "trades" and various other duties around the boarding house could be a pain, but we did it with little or no complaints. I rememer the most daring thing to do was to slip out of the school area ,into the valley and visit the little "duka" to buy smokes or anything to eat that was not availble in the tuckshop.

My big friends were Ian Silver and Piet van Ryneveld.

I live in South Africa and work as a labour consultant. I was in the Army for 30 years and am semi-retired.
