Eric John Wainwright

Nickname: eggy
House: Clive
Years: 1958-1963

Memories of school:
Not much after more than 40 years!
  • Very happy overall, with a lot of sport of all kinds.
  • White-washing the roadside stones when on detentiion under the watchful eye once of Mr Fletcher the headmaster.
  • Running up the stairs of the science block as a test on work output!
  • Cycling into town on a Sunday.

    Since leaving School:
  • Went to UK in 1964 (via South Africa where I caught malaria!) and on to university.
  • Then worked for 3 years at University of Surrey in Guildford, but couldn't stand another English winter and went out to Perth in Western Australia in 1972.
  • Since then have worked for various universities and the federal government in Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Cairns, and finally in Townsville where I've just retired after 7 years as Pro-Vice-Chancellor at James Cook University.

With my wife, Dagmar, I expect to be travelling for a while. My 2 daughters Sally and Julie (and my first wife Helen, nee Shaw, ex-KHS for girls 1963) are all in Australia.
