Memories of School:
Good times. Supportive staff (pity some of us did not reciprocate so well sometimes). Dusty trudges to classes in the dry
season. Lots of sport on hard, rough playing fields. Weekends with more sport. Plenty of delegated responsibility with
useful leadership training for later life. PoW was an excellent school by the standards of anything I have experienced
since.
Since leaving School:
Went to Edinburgh University (wonderful choice) to study Ecology against the advice of John Seldon our biology teacher.
Graduated 1966 and went via South Africa to Brisbane, Australia 1967 on an Austalian cattle industry scholarship to do a
PhD on ticks. Found my lovely wife Anna en route in South Africa, have two great kids, Mike and Helen, now grown up.
Recruited to CSIRO, Australia's national research agency in 1970 and have had a wonderful life in science ever
since. I have seen the world on work errands including numerous trips back to Africa and Kenya, with a visit to PoW in the
late 1990s. A new school committee was keen to recover from the excesses and neglect of the 1970-80's committees, to
restore Nairobi School to its former credibility and gain some influence in national affairs after being pushed aside by
Alliance graduates.
I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. An easy place to enjoy a fulfilling and enjoyable life at the other
end of the world.
