Joined the Prince of Wales School in January 1948 from Nakuru Primary School.
Memories of School:
Many memories - I am writing my "story" for my daughters, but the greatest
attribute I got from PoW was Discipline - yes, on the backside for crimes
(smoking) and misdemeanours, but also self-discipline, and the value of
teamwork .You were in a "house" and that was everything!....Despite saying
that, I believe that all us Kenya kids had a strong feeling of
independence - we did not need to be led by the nose and could all stand on
our own two feet from an early age...
Left PoW at the end of 1952
Mitchell Cotts, Nairobi January to June 1953
KPR full time in Embu and outposts June 1953 to July 1954
Kenya Regiment Training Centre, Lanet July to November 1954
In the UK (Army) November 1954 to May 1955 - Commissioned to Gloucesters, seconded to
Northern Rhodesia Regiment (similar to a KAR) to serve in Malaya and Lusaka June 1955 to Nov
1956
Back to Kenya again December 1956 to May 1959, selling tyres - not very successfully!
Hong Kong Police May 1959 to September 1980.
Retired to Perth, W.Australia 1980, held security positions in a retail
organisation, and in a diamond mining company.
Retired by employer as "too
old" in December 1993 - all employees in the company over 55 were shown the
door (now not legal!!).
Now enjoying retirement with my wife.....we've been married for 40 years. Two married
daughters and between them have given us 6 grandkids.
Hobbies: woodwork, caravanning around Western Australia.
