Michael Parry

House: Scott
Year: 1958-1960
Memories:
Friendships, sport, illicit smoking, 'standards' for athletics and swimming, getting the cuts from Flakie and Stork, CCF, sunny days, being a daybug (last term a boarder), sneaking out on Saturday avos while a boarder, mealtimes, discipline, assembly, rock'n'roll, being young in what seems to have been a better world.

Since leaving School:
Joined the Daily Nation the day after leaving School and have worked in newspapers ever since, later joining the EA Standard and writing on tourism and conservation, in South Africa and Australia. Was a correspondent for Associated Press and the BBC while in Kenya. Now back in Perth as a sub-editor after eight enjoyable years in Sydney.

Returned - much to my surprise - to Kenya in February 2003. I say surprise, because Valerie (nee Griggspall) and I were never going to go back but we did return to see Val's sister. It was our first return in 30 years and obviously the changes were dramatic. The old School looked the same and the Headmaster was most welcoming and got me to sign the visitors book. It was looking a little rough around the edges, but essentially it was almost like stepping back in time - talking of which - the main clock doesn't work and remains suspended in time.!

On a personal note, we've been married 37 years have a son Sean (12 years with Emirates In Dubai) a daughter Tanya (graphic designer), and two granchildren.
