and fellow pupils with whom I have lost contact – Underwood, Nightingall, Montgomery, Bergsonne, Haines, Wright.....

History degree (Pembroke College, Cambridge)
Taught English in Brazil
Retrained as social anthropologist at University College London (Ph.D., 1985) with long-term fieldwork
in Highland Papua New Guinea
Assistant Keeper, British Museum until 1998
Since 1998, Director, Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford University and co-head of the School of Anthropology
