Memories of the School:
My memories are of rugby, camaraderie (majority of my close friendships are from 'Patch') - I am always amused by how
I meet people from different years, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s & 1980s and we always seem to have things discuss with the
common denominator being 'Patch'.
Since leaving School:
On leaving Nairobi School, I went to Switzerland where I studied Hotel & Restaurant Management at ICHA in Brig.
Upon graduation from ICHA in Brig, I worked at the Hyatt Regency Houston Downtown for 20 months as a Management
Trainee. I then came back to Kenya and joined the Tamarind Group, where I worked in the flagship restaurant
“The Carnivore” in Nairobi and rose to the rank of Deputy General Manager.
I left the Tamarind Group in January 2006 in order to pursue my entrepreneurship dream of setting up a restaurant
management company, in March 2006 Blanco’s Holding Limited was born (Note the relationship between the company
name & my old Nairobi School nickname). On December 21st 2006 Blanco's Lounge & Grill, a modern African concept
located at Timau Plaza off Argwings Road in Nairobi, opened its doors to the public.
The first unit in a future chain of restaurants owned by Blanco's Holdings Limited. We followed this up with
Kenya’s first branded Tea House, The T-Spot, which we conceptualized, developed & currently manage for
KTDA (Kenya Tea Development Agency Ltd). We are currently exploring other concepts for establishment in the
local & regional market.
In addition to Blanco’s I have also set up a HICA (Hospitality Investment Consulting Africa) a Hotel and
Restaurant Management and Consulting Company that will focus on hospitality management opportunities in the
Eastern, Central and Southern Africa regions.
