   Peter Maclure

Peter Maclure

Nicknames: Mac
House: Junior/Clive
Years: 1961-1966

Head of Junior House 1965/6

Memories:
  • It was generally 6 very good years.
  • A very interesting experience to be there when the school went from an all white to a multiracial school, and to witness independence in Kenya.
  • I become a committed Christian while at the school and was involved with the Crusaders' class.
  • I enjoyed the sports, and although never a star, finally made the 1st XV school rugby team as hooker. We played all our major opponents. Little did I realise that cheering for the wrong side - the American school (Rift Valley Academy) - was my future wife, Sally, who I married in 1977. ( We have a son, David who is himself now married and living in Brazil.)
  • I have vivid memories of the train ride back to Uganda every beginning and end of term and we had all the stations memorised. The first sight of the Rift Valley just after Limuru always filled me with constant amazement.

    Since that time:
  • A degree in Biology and Geography from Keel University (1967-71)
  • Teaching in Nigeria followed by a PGCE at Oxford.(1973/4)
  • Gained a MA in Theology from Columbia International University in the U.S. in 1982.
  • Worked in Sudan and Kenya and London before becoming team leader for Aim International in Chad from 1998.
