Having left School, I studied at St. Lukes College, Exeter and qualified as a P.E. Teacher.
Since then I have taught in Prep Schools and I am currently Deputy Head of Dumpton School
in Wimborne, Dorset (England).
My memories of School revolve mostly around sport and the great tussles
we had against Saints and Duke'o. I was lucky to play with some really
good players in most of the sports, and match days were always special
occasions.
My first Head of House at Grigg was Roger Taylor who was a pretty fearsome
character. Later Ian Blair was Head of House, and on one occasion he beat about
35 boys in succession for talking in prep! He was, in fact, a good man
and I am not sure that he enjoyed the experience at all.
I also remember a terrific dorm fight when we juniors barricaded
ourselves in against the combined attack of senior and inter dorms. They
eventually broke in and we copped it good and proper before 'Woof'
Bartlett came in and restored some semblance of order.
I also remember vividly my first Old Cambrians day when, in the evening,
the whole school paraded for the last post in ranks around the main
quad. It was one of the most moving moments of my life and one I
treasure.
