Born : Dar es salaam 6th March 1933.
House prefect in Grigg.
On leaving school I worked in Lindi, Tanganyika as manager of a small ships agency for nine years and thereafter for nine years with Holland Africa Line Agency in Mombasa. As a result of Africanisation I went to the UK and was employed with The Geest Line for 2 years six months after which emmigrated to South Africa and was manager of Freight Services Ships Agency Company in Port Elizabeth for almost three years.

Thereafter I spent 10 years in the Middle East with Y.B.A. Kanoo the largest ships' agents in the Gulf and was Branch Manager in Jeddah, Bahrain, Dubai Abu Dhabi and Muscat from where I retired to Lochgoilhead, Argyll, Scotland where I have resided for the past 16 years.

I have been married to Margaret Stewart (nee Hetherington) for the past 45 years who is ex Uganda and was one of the first intake to the Hill School, Eldoret in 1944. I have a daughter and a son, the latter was BBC Foreign Correspondent for Central Asia for two years , a year as the Afghanistan Correspondent and is currently the BBC Correspondent in Gaza, Palestine.

I am still in touch with ex PoW types Derek Pegrum, John Lasse Hvass and Nick Ladenis, ex Grigg House; also Lowe Potgeiter ex Eldoret and PoW and recently caught up with my old girlrfriend Pat Doy (nee Bailey) from Dar es Salaam and the "Boma" who currently lives in Grafton, NSW Australia and am always keen to meet up with or be in touch with ex-East Africans.
