Chris Howes

Nickname: CDM
House: Hawke
Years: 1952-1958

I started in Junior House, was there for a year and then went straight into Senior House (Hawke) where I remained for the next five years. I was never much of an expert at sports, except perhaps that I may have held the record for the number of cuts administered during my stay before becoming a prefect and then finally a School prefect at the end. Obviously Jake Flake (Peter Fletcher) was the Head and my Housemaster was Mr Salmon.

I was awarded a First Class School Certificate from Class 4C, and then a Higher School Certificate two years later from the Science group. I then went back here to UK and joined Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company Limited as an apprentice, and stayed with that Company as it changed to Associated Electrical Industries Limited, to English Electric AEI, to GEC, to GEC Alsthom, and finally Alsthom.

I left Alsthom about 1995 to join a private generating company called Corby Power Limited as their Engineering Manager. I retired in 2000.

I have had occasional contact with Peter Simpson and only one or two others from POW, one of whom I met whilst running a Power Station in Iran. I also worked for various periods in Canada, and in South Africa, whilst with GEC. Equally I moved around a lot in UK during working on the construction and commissioning and overhaul of the MV/AEI/GEC manufactured Power Plant in UK.

Living in Cheshire, England
