Peter Graham was my adopted name by which everyone at that time would have known me.
My proper name is Peter Gabriel.
I started of as a boarder and then became a day boy, being transported to and from the school each day by Army
transport. This consisted of a one ton truck with an armed soldier as a guard. Kids from the Army married quarters
would be dropped off at the various schools in the vicinity.
I remember the helicopters with the casualties from the Aberdare mountains being picked up by ambulance and taken
to the nearby Military Hospital. At the height of the Emergency I also remember some of the teachers carrying
pistols, and the watch towers manned by armed askaries. I guess for young people these were exciting times.
My father was posted back to England in 1957 and that was more or less the end of my formal education. I then joined
the Army and spent the next 6 years in 7th Signal Regiment, Herford, Germany. After the Army I got myself a job in
London, got married and have lived in the UK ever since. I now run a small translation business from home.
It would be nice to hear from others of that period and to exchange a few memories.
