Memories of School: Enjoyed - lousy at sports, though,
never could do those athletics standards and used to be called "the
galloping tapeworm" at one point.
Since leaving School: Left Kenya early 1966, various
qualifications ensued at Reading, LSE and Sussex Universities. Since
1973, I have been an academic specialising in rural poverty reduction
and agricultural policy in low income countries. There was a long
interval before I returned to Kenya (in 1997), and interestingly I have
been working in that region (Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya) a lot over the
past three years.
Currently I am Professor in the School of Development
Studies at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, and I am also
Director of the Overseas Development Group that is our unit that does a
lot of consultancy work for the UK Department for International
Development and other aid organisations.
