Memories of School:
Fierce school and house loyalties, well summed up by Head Master Wigmore's plea for some restraint in house matches since
the number of injured sportsmen in the san meant that the PoW was unable to field its strongest School sides.
The French and Latin master (Mr Cowie?), whose aim with a board rubber was legendary and whose latest ribald joke was
requested by parents.
Fagging for David Lythe. If any remember a 1964 first-year struggling across the quad seconds before Wednesday parade,
struggling with a large pile of books as well as his own bag, I was the boy and the books were David's.
Peter Carne's head prefectship of Junior House (aka the taming of the rabble)
Friendship with Christian Bergsonne and 'Jonesey' - Geoff Jones's younger brother
The kindness of other juniors and their parents in inviting me to join them on Sundays
Playing on the wing for that junior colts football team - one of the best it was said
The occasional gem in amongst all those Audie Murphy films on a Saturday evening
........and many more.
Since leaving School:
Read History at King's College, London
Thereafter teaching, farming, travelling, writing, publishing
Founder and Director of Kestrel Books Ltd.
I am married to studio potter Joanna Howells, and we live in Glamorgan, South Wales.
