Memories of School Heaps!! ...Johnny Riddell and his little Bat called Horace and his
10 pushups for hands in pockets. Flakey Jake, the best Headmaster ever, and his lecture on the
'birds and the bees'. Smoking in the bicycle shed near the senior study. Playing in a Skiffle
Group with Sandy Roberton, David Asher and "Daisy" Knight. Gordon Chater, a lad who played the
clarinet in Intermediate House, and died from meningitis.
The inter dorm raids at the end of
term when we used to mount raids on Scott, armed with hockey sticks, cricket bats and/or a
cricket ball in a football sock. The STANDARDS, swimming ten lenghths, going off the top board,
running, jumping (long and high), the cross country. The cadets and the parade on Empire Day.
Satis Cards and the Ranking applied to them by the teachers.
"Trades" when you had to do all
manner of tasks on a roster basis for the smooth operation of the house. The annual dance when
girls from the Boma came to the school. Clive's dance always seemed to be in the Gym. The plays
that the school put on.
.....I could babble on for ever ... I will keep thinking and see what I can dredge up ...
After School:
I was in the Kenya Regiment after School, and then I travelled to Austalia in 1961. Travelled
and worked nearly all over Australia, before settling in Sydney and becoming involved in the
NSW State Government Health Service, where I am still employed as a Health Administator.
(Note from Webmaster: Roy already has a photo on the web site, and is digging out others
that might be of interest. He also has an Old Cambrian Society Directory which he has offered
for the Impala project
