Ian Galbraith Ballance
Memories of School:|
I was in to all the sports:
Junior Colts: Hockey, Rugby, Football
Intermediate Colts: the same three
Senior Colts: Football
Great friends with Harry Barnett and Peter Earl as I lived next door to Scott Labs
where my Mother worked. The three of us were ex-Westlands. The Kilimanjaro trip in 1963 was a
highlight, but the CCF camps were good as well.
Since leaving School:
British Army 1964-1975 (11 years, 102 days and 12 hours), REME Vehicle Mechanic.
Enjoyed the travel - Near East, Middle East and the Far East. Didn't really enjoy Northern
Ireland too much, except the Guinness!!
Played hockey for various Army teams around the world, and represented Hong Kong six times
(once against Australia).
Became an Expat in 1975 and have spent the time since then mainly in Saudi Arabia,
Dubai and am currently in Chad working for Kellog, Brown and Root on an oil project. The next
assignment with this mob could be Iraq!!
Got married in 1976, to Margaret, no kids, still together.
Whilst here in Chad I have met George Prinsloo who was in Clive House the same time I
was at PoW. He said that they have a lot of get-togethers in South Africa of ex-Princo people.
