Mini Reunions in the UK & Normandy, France - July 2009
Photos & text supplied by Dave Burn
In July, Frances and I had a wonderful holiday in UK, France and Germany. The main objective of the holiday was to
meet up for a golf vacation in Normandy with old pals from Impala Rugby Club but the trip also snowballed into
further mini-reunions with old P.o.W pals in London and Horsham.
The Impala golf is organized yearly by Stu Eastwood of Nyumbani fame for old rugby buddies from Impala, who like
to play some golf, eat, drink (copiously) and tell lies about how good they used to be (the older we get, the better
we used to be!). Some singing and guitar playing was mandatory each evening on the patio with our beverages,
courtesy of Rick Tyekiff – of “Rick and Sandy” fame and Ronnie Andrews, D.o.Y and a hootenanny alumni from Nairobi.
The owner of the Auberge appeared to enjoy our singing but in reality he was really smiling because we were
consuming large amounts of his outrageously priced G and T’s and bottles of wine.
We also had the good fortune to stay with Jerry Sirley and his lovely wife Anne who re-introduced us to the joys
of the local pub life and put on a splendid BBQ for a Scott house reunion despite the English weather not being
very cooperative. We also took the opportunity to meet up with John Bind in London who was himself on holiday
from SA.
