Old Cambrian Society "e-Newsletter" - September 2005

e-Newsletter -  Sept  2005

Dear Old Cambrian,

An e-Newsletter in consecutive months is something of a rarity, but this is for good reason. There are a couple of OCS events coming up soon that really do need a bit of a "plug", so here we go:

Old Cambrian Society (Kenya)Annual Dinner/Dance - Friday, 7th October 2005  **** Order your tickets NOW ****
Less than two weeks to go to this event, and the organisers need many more people to register. The Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi is a superb venue, and if the dinner last year is anything to go by, this will be a superb evening. For details on how to book tickets for the premier event of the year, please visit: http://www.oldcambrians.com/Reunion-Nairobi2005.html

Old Cambrian Society (Australia) as part of the All East African Schools Picnic - Sunday, 23rd October 2005 in Lane Cove National Park, Lane Cove, Sydney, NSW. This is a fantastic annual opportunity for all Old Cambrians in and around Sydney to meet up for what is always a great day out. For more details please visit: http://www.oldcambrians.com/Events-Australia2005.html

East Africa Golf Day - Tuesday, 23rd May 2006
I recently received an e-mail from Rachel Ewbank (nee Symonds), as follows:
Each year we run an East Africa Golf day in Southern England (cost around £40), which you may or may not have heard of. Next year I have offered to run it here, in Hartley Wintney, near Fleet in North East Hampshire. (I was born in Nairobi in 1942 and went to Nairobi Primary and Kenya High School). The Date is Tuesday 23rd May 2006. Venue Hartley Wintney Golf Club, from 11am. One round of golf, meal and prize-giving. Might there be some bibis and bwanas out there on your mailing lists who would like to come along? Thank you.
Rachel Ewbank (nee Symonds): robin_ewbank@lineone.net The Vicarage, Hartley Wintney, Hants. RG27 8DZ. Tel (0)1252 842670
A golden opportunity for all you golfers out there to have a really good day out.

If you are planning a gathering/reunion of Old Cambrians, please let me know so that I can advertise it in an e-Newsletter and on the web site.

Impala Project - placing all Impala magazines on CD/DVD
Another plea for anyone who has any Impala magazines tucked away in the loft, or buried somewhere amongst their memorabilia. Please have a look at the list on the web site of the magazines that we are "missing" http://www.oldcambrians.com/impala.html . If you can help in providing any of these editions, please let me know.
If you are interested in acquiring a copy of the CD/DVD (advertised in full in the last e-Newsletter - http://www.oldcambrians.com/NewsletterAug2005.html - please drop me an e-mail.

New Books by Old Cambrian!!
I plan to create a special section on the web site for books written by Old Cambrians, and also to list books about East Africa. I would appreciate being prompted by any of you to enable me to produce a comprehensive list for both sections, and hopefully it will build up to be a truly unique reference of "Patch" literary talents and books about this very special part of Africa. If possible, when supplying me with titles, please also mention the author (+ House and years at PoW / NS if they are Old Cambrians). A scan of the front cover plus a brief summary of the book would also be appreciated.

Sir Herbert Baker and the Prince of Wales School
Talking of exciting new additions to the web site, have you read the superb new feature article submitted by Christopher Collier-Wright (Hawke 1954-9)?
The URL link is: http://www.oldcambrians.com/Baker,SirHerbert.html and is a fascinating insight into the design of the main school buildings.

That's all for now!
