Old Cambrian Society
"e-Newsletter" - November 2004
Dear Old Cambrian,
It's OCS News time again!!
I continue to receive lots of requests from Old Cambrians to be
included in the Alumni on the web site. I don't bother counting how many
are registered anymore, but I know that this e-Newsletter is going out to 720
people. There are lots more out there, I know, so please keep spreading the
word. If you know of any Old Cambrians who have not yet registered with me, ask
them to make it their New Years resolution to do
so!
Webmaster's holiday to Kenya was
fantastic!! I combined various passions!............judging
the Jersey (and
Guernsey) cattle classes at the Nairobi International Trade Fair (formerly
the Nairobi Show); wildlife viewing on the slopes of Mt. Kenya and the Masai
Mara; and of course
attending the Old Cambrian Society dinner-dance at the Norfolk Hotel.
I saw parts of Kenya that I had not been to for over 30 years, and it was
such a mind-blowing experience! I recommend that everyone who now lives
elsewhere to grab any opportunity you have to re-visit the old country and your
'roots'.
The Annual
Dinner-Dance of the Old Cambrian
Society (Kenya chapter) was a fabulous
event, with over 100 in attendance. A report and photos can be found on the web
site at: http://www.oldcambrians.com/Photos-Reunion2004Kenya2.html In
future, annual dinners will be held on the first Friday of October, so everyone
please mark your diaries for Friday, 7th October
2005.
The
All East African Schools' Picnic (Sydney,
Australia) held
recently, attracted lower numbers than usual, but nonetheless it sounds as
though everyone who attended had a fun time. A brief report can be found at: http://www.oldcambrians.com/Reunion-Australia2004.html
and photos will be published just as soon as I have received them from 'down
under'.
Notice
board:
Old
Cambrian Society (South Africa) - an Xmas Curry
Lunch is being organised for Wednesday 22nd
December at a downtown Cape Town
restaurant.
Anyone
interested in attending, please e-mail Andrew Langley (Nicholson 1958-63) at aglangley@telkomsa.net I hear that
Martin Langley (Nicholson 1956-61) is traveling from his home in Houston, Texas
for the event!!
The school has produced The Centenary
Edition of the Impala Magazine and I obtained my copy at the dinner
in Nairobi on 1st October. It contains
fascinating and unique material, including the Alumni List
1931-1998. This is a listing of everyone who has attended The Prince of
Wales School / Nairobi School, taken from the official school register. Please
visit the web site for more details on the magazine and how to acquire a copy:
http://www.oldcambrians.com/Photos-ImpalaCentenary.html .
It is VERY good reading!!
In the last e-Newsletter,
I mentioned that due to a serious "crash" of the computer where I
stored all the e-mails I received during 2002 and 2003, I have lost track of who is looking for some of the
people mentioned on the "Where are they?" page - http://www.oldcambrians.com/where.html If
you know that you requested details about someone, could you please e-mail me
again so that I can store that information, and who knows, I might even be able
to put you in touch with your "lost" pal.
If you are the
one looking for contact details for either Keith
Brian-Boys (Clive 1945-1948/9) or Mike Zorab
(Grigg 1957-1961/2), I now have some details for
you.
That's all for
now!
