Dear Old Cambrian,
A quick round-up of Old Cambrian Society News and
also future Events:
Old Cambrian
Society (UK)
– Annual Dinner – Friday, 16th April
To date I have 96 people registered for the annual
dinner to be held in London
on Friday, 16th April – a list of those attending can be found
on the web site by going to: http://www.oldcambrians.com/2004DinnerList.html
. I will be closing the reservations list on Tuesday, 13th
April when I will need to give the hotel definite numbers.
It’s going to be a fantastic evening, so if you
wish to reserve a place at the dinner, please see the web site - http://www.oldcambrians.com/events2004dinner.html
and send me an e-mail (webmaster@oldcambrians.com)
Old Cambrians in
Australia, in the Sydney area, are planning a dinner also on
Friday, 16th April.
If you are interested in attending, please send an
e-mail to Steve Taylor (steve@echodesign.com.au).
Old Cambrian
Society (Kenya)
– Quarterly Get-Together – Friday, 30th April
This will take place at the Pots & Palms Restaurant, Riverside Drive, Nairobi
from 7pm. There is no charge, and the meat for the evening has been kindly
sponsored by Jack Asiyo and Dave
Arunga. A cash bar will be available.
For more details, please e-mail Mumo Mwendwa (mumo@muvokanza.com)
Old Cambrians in
North America are invited to a Reunion in Vancouver, Canada.
This will take place on Friday 14th
and Saturday 15th May and you are invited to join up for
some informal golf and socialising in
beautiful Pitt Meadows, in the Vancouver
countryside.
Martin Langley
is arranging this, and he can be contacted by e-mail at - mlangley@hal-pc.org – for more
details.
The Old Cambrian
Society Tie is being manufactured “as we speak”, and
I hope to take delivery of the order in the next couple of weeks. There has
been a tremendous demand for these, and firm orders for 145 were received. I
have ordered a few extra to hold in stock for the future just in case there are
any more Old Cambrians out there who have not yet heard about us or our
activities.
The Old Cambrian
Society (Canada) Reunion and Roger Whittaker Concert took place last Thursday (25th
March) and it was a fantastic success. There are some photos and a short report
on the web site - http://www.oldcambrians.com/Reunion-Toronto2004.html
.
Planning an Event?
If you are planning an event involving Old Cambrians,
please let me know and I will publicise it for you on the web site and through
my regular “newsletters”. All I ask in return is that you send me a
report and photos of the event for publication on the web site. Major reunions,
mini-reunions (of just a few OCs), informal gatherings with others who schooled
in East Africa – they are all welcomed.
Web Site
I must confess to being rather behind with the
publication of photos on the web site. I have received an amazing amount of
truly fascinating photos recently, and have around 150 waiting to go on the
site. I promise, I will get round to these in the next few weeks. Currently
there are well over 550 photos on the web site (of the school, School Teams,
House Teams, etc), and 410 people have registered and have entries in the
Alumni. I know that many people enjoy visiting the web site on a regular basis,
and most days there is something new posted. Last Tuesday (23rd
March) there were 4,269 visitors to the site…….the record is 4,900
in one day!! The average number of visits per day is now running at just under
3,000 and I’m delighted that so many people are getting so much enjoyment
out of the site.
If you do have photos that are not currently
published on the web site, please let me know. I WILL find the time to get them
on the site!!
Also, I would urge everyone to look from time to time
at the main Home Page of the Old Cambrian Society web site (http://www.oldcambrians.com) as that is
where I publicise news items and future events. The vast majority of visitors
to the web site go straight for the “Photos” , “Alumni”
or “News” pages – I know, because I get the stats every day
– but please try to bookmark the Home Page as I plan to use that more and
more for Notices.
From e-mails I receive on a regular basis, it’s
good to see that the web site is helping Old Cambrians to get back in touch
with each other after 20/30/40/50 years. Please continue to send me e-mails
when you do link up with “long, lost friends”……..if you
send me photos as well, I will publish them along with a short report of the
happy occasion.
That’s all for now!
Best wishes
Steve Le Feuvre
