Old Cambrian Society "e-Newsletter" - June 2005

Dear Old Cambrian,

There are two major reunion taking place during June, in the U.K. and Canada:

Dover, Kent, England - Sat 11th and Sun 12th June 2005
  • Apologies for sending another reminder so soon, but I need to have firm numbers by Monday 6th June for the Old Cambrian Society (UK Branch) Annual Reunion Lunch which takes place on Sunday 12th June in Dover, Kent, England. Please take a look at the listing on the web site, and if you don't appear on it and do wish to attend, please let me know immediately (http://www.oldcambrians.com/2005DinnerList-numbers.html). To date we have 73 on the list, for the lunch at Dover Town Hall and the Dover Pageant. I'm sure there are a few more out there, but I need to know by Monday 6th June. After that we will only be able to adjust numbers by a few either way. Whilst I appreciate the many e-mails I've received giving apologies for not being able to attend, could I ask that only those wanting to book places contact me.
  • Golf Tournament - Saturday 11th June - this will take place at the Stonelees Golf Members Club (http://www.stonelees-gmc.co.uk/) at 2pm. So far we have just seven OCs signed up for this: Ian Ballance (Grigg 1961-3), David Betts (Rhodes 1948-53), Anthony Burton (Rhodes 1955-60), John Davis (Grigg 1955-60), Rodney Dimech (Nicholson 1959-62), Martin Langley (Nicholson 1956-61) and Malcolm Wilson (Hawke 1959-63) .............. so where are all the golfers from Clive and Scott?? Cecil Johnston (Clive 1952-8) has volunteered to caddy, but only for someone representing Clive House!! If you'd like to join in on this golf tournament, please contact Rod Dimech at: dimechr@aol.com
  • Informal Evening - Saturday 11th June - we have a choice of two preferred venues, but it may depend on the weather on the day....... Light of India and Cullens Yard. So far, the following have confirmed that they'd like to meet up from about 7pm on the Saturday, and they are: Anthony Burton, Cecil Johnston, Martin Langley, Ally Mathers and his wife, Roland Kuhn & Susan Haight, Sergio & Vera Lecchini, Ian Ballance, Keith Aikin, Jerry Sirley & Anne Davies, Mike Folkard, Liz Scoble-Hodgins, Graham Tooley, Alaric Worrod, and myself. That does not include those from the Dimech and McFarnell families who are helping to organise the Dover weekend. Please let me know if you want to join us, and I will try to get an e-mail out to everyone on Thursday before I leave Jersey on my way to Dover, letting everyone know the venue and confirming the time. If you haven't heard from me by Friday lunchtime, please call me on my mobile phone which is: 07797 743 091.
  • For those of you who will be staying at hotels/guest houses/with friends in and around Dover, could you please drop me an e-mail in the next couple of days letting me know where you are staying, and also giving me a contact number. That way I will be able to contact you should there be any last-minute changes to the arrangements for the various activities taking place throughout the weekend.
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada - Sat 25th June 2005
  • Old Cambrian Society (Canada Branch) Reunion Lunch takes place on Saturday 25th June. Latest news from Ron Bullock, who is organising this reunion, is that there are 28 signed up. The lunch takes place at the University Club, University of Waterloo, Ontario - meet at 12.30pm for a 1pm start. This is going to be a great event, so if you are able to get to it and haven't booked a place yet, please contact Ron at: cambrian@pop.gto.net
Obituary - Keith Harrington (Staff 1962-1976) - I just heard that Keith passed away on 13th May 2005. Many of you will have fond memories of this totally dedicated art teacher who had such a profound influence on many of us during our time at the school. An obituary will be published on the web site very soon.

History of Muthaiga Country Club 1913-1963 - I've received a request from Stephen Mills (Stephen.Mills@crbafrica.com) who is compiling material for a coffee-table style book about Muthaiga Country Club. If you have any memories of the club from that era, or indeed any photos that might be able to be included in the book, could you please contact Stephen Mills.

That's all for now!
