February 2009
Dear Old Cambrian,
The work of the Old Cambrian Society
around the world continues to gather pace, and there are a few reunions in the
coming months that need advertising. I hope that as many as possible will take
advantage of the considerable amount of work that goes in to organising these events, and I urge you to attend the one
nearest to you. If there isn’t a reunion anywhere near to where you live,
why not consider organising one yourself? Please
contact me if you need some guidance.
Here goes with a rundown of important
items for your attention:

Photos of Two Reunions - Old
Cambrian Society (Australia)
Whilst on a recent holiday in Australia, I was privileged to attend two
fantastic gatherings – one in Sydney and
the other in Melbourne.
Many thanks to the organisers, and all those Old Cambrians (and one Old Yorkist!!) who attended.

Thinking of Australia
Having just returned from New South Wales and Victoria, I am horrified to see the
tragedy of the effects of the bush fires affecting particularly Victoria
in the past week or so. I hope that all our members have escaped injury to
themselves, their families and their properties. Please let me know if you or
any of your friends or loved ones have been affected.
With deep sadness, I
announce the passing of the following Old Cambrians:
Obituary – Christopher Collier-Wright (Hawke 1954-9) - http://www.oldcambrians.com/Obituary-Collier-Wright,Christopher.html
Just a week ago, the
Old Cambrian Society lost one it’s most enthusiastic and dedicated members.
I am still stunned to have lost such a good friend, someone who contributed
such a massive amount to the Old Cambrian Society web site, someone who has
been so supportive to me throughout the ‘journey’ of revitalising the Society and it’s activities. Our
thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Angele, Johnny and Roberta.
Christopher’s
funeral will take place at 2.30pm on Monday 23rd February 2009 at
The Queen’s Chapel. St. James’s Palace, Marlborough Road, London
SW1A 1BG. The
Reception will take place a few minutes walk away at The Royal Over-Seas League
(Hall of India and Pakistan),
Park Place,
off St. James’s Street.
I will be flying over
to London from my home here in Jersey
for the funeral, and I would be pleased to meet up with any Old Cambrians also
wishing to pay their last respects to such a super chap. As the venue is in one
of the royal palaces, the family is required to provide a list of those
attending the Funeral Service, so please e-mail me if you plan to attend the
funeral, and I will pass your name on to the family. Maybe we can meet up for
an early lunch before making our way to St. James’s Palace for the
Service.
Obituary – Brian Peskett (Rhodes
1942-5) - http://www.oldcambrians.com/Obituary-Peskett,Brian.html
I make my usual plea........ If you are
planning a gathering/reunion of Old Cambrians, please let me know so that I can
advertise it in an e-Newsletter and on the web site.
That's all for now!
