Reunion Announcement - Old Cambrian Society (UK)Annual Dinner - Friday 11th April 2008 at the RAF Club, Piccadilly, London

74 of the 120 available places have been confirmed already, so if you are thinking of attending the main reunion of the year, please contact me as soon as possible.

The  Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London is a superb venue for our annual dinners, and as usual we have OCs coming from all over the world to meet up with old school pals they haven’t seen for many years. Tickets are priced at £36 each. I hope to have a new stock of OCS ties for sale, as well as OCS blazer badges and lapel badges. Details of the dinner, menu and booking form can be found on the web site at: http://www.oldcambrians.com/events2008dinner.html

School Crest Wall Plaque -  your chance to purchase something quite special !!  http://www.oldcambrians.com/Photos-SchoolCrest.html

Dave Leslie (Hawke 1960-5) has had some school crest plaques produced in South Africa, and is offering to have some more made for sale at the London reunion on 11th April 2008 at the RAF Club. We are refining the artwork of the impala’s head so that it is more life-like and you can see the first draft of the design at the following open web site link – http://www.oldcambrians.com/Photos-SchoolPlaque2008.jpg . The plaque is approx. 7 inches long and just under 6 inches wide, and would make a marvelous keepsake for anyone that has ever attended the school. Guideline price for collection at the annual dinner is £25-£30, and a proportion of this will be going to the OCS Trust Fund.   Many, many thanks to Dave Leslie for making this whole merchandise project happen!!

For anyone not attending the London reunion on 11th April, please let me know if you would be interested in acquiring on of these plaques. In the coming weeks I will be working out a price for getting the stock from South Africa and posting them around the world, so will let you have a price once all that research has been done.

Update on auction of Prince of Wales School Medal

The latest (and highest) bid is £140. This is simply fabulous!! To keep an eye on the latest bid, visit - http://www.oldcambrians.com/POWMedal-Auction.html

Honour for Old Cambrian

Michael Lawrence-Brown (Rhodes 1957-62) has been awarded Officer of the Order of Australia in the recent Australia Day honours list.  I’m reliably informed that this award is a kind of Aussie OBE, and the citation reads “For service to medicine, particularly in the field of endovascular surgery, as a clinician, researcher and teacher, and through contributions to professional organisations”.  Many congratulations to Mike.

Kenya – MPs who are Old Cambrians

In addition to the three Old Cambrians identified in my January newsletter who have been successful in the recent Parliamentary elections in Kenya, I have heard that there are at least another two…….. Dr. David Eseli Simiyu (Grigg House 1972-7)  and  Major(Rtd) Aden Ahmed Sugow (Tana House 1977-80).

That makes at least 5 MPs who are Old Cambrians!!

Kenya  &  its people  -  we are thinking of you!

The ghastly troubles that have afflicted Kenya in recent weeks following the general elections, has truly shocked everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with all Old Cambrians and their families in Kenya at this time, and let us hope that peace, calm and general law and order will soon return to all parts of the country.

And, on that rather sombre and serious note, I sign off as usual ……….. That's all for now!
