   Old Cambrian Society "e-Newsletter" - 28th Aug 2011

e-Newsletter -  28th August 2011

Dear Old Cambrian,

Where have the first eight months of 2011 gone??    As regular visitors to the Old Cambrian Society web site will have noticed, I am relying far more on posting news items and announcements on the web site rather than producing formal newsletters. So, if you wish to keep up to date with happenings, please visit the main page of the web site regularly.

Personally, it’s been an exceptionally busy year for me both personally and professionally, and as a result it sometimes takes me a while to respond to queries and post things on the web site. I do have a big backlog, but I’m tackling it, and working flat out this bank holiday weekend to clear some of the e-mails that have come in recently. I think I’m a victim of the success and interest being shown by “old boys” in the web site and their old school friends.

Anyway, enough of that. The main purpose for this short e-Newsletter is to announce a couple of events taking place shortly in Kenya. I’m off to Kenya this coming week for a two week holiday, so will be attending both events, and I hope to see and catch up with many Old Cambrians whilst I’m there.

Reunion - Old Cambrian Society (Kenya) – Saturday 10th Sept 2011  ‘Reunion’ evening at  Blanco’s Lounge & Grill, Nairobi from 6pm.

I welcome and encourage Old Cambrians to attend this event which is taking place at one of the most popular venues in Kenya, Blanco’s Lounge & Grill, which is owned and run by Old Cambrian and host for the evening, Leonard Mudachi (Serengeti(Nicholson) 1990-3). I will be there, and I will bring with me a range of OCS merchandise. If you plan to attend and wish to purchase an OCS tie, Impala CD, OCS blazer badge and/or lapel badges, or an OCS wall plaque – could you please e-mail me before Friday 2nd Sept with your order, so that I know what stock to bring out with me.

Details of the evening can be found at - http://www.oldcambrians.com/Events-2011NairobiDinner.html - so if you plan to attend, please book your place by e-mailing the address given at the foot of the announcement.

Reunion - Old Cambrian Society (Kenya) – Monday 5th Sept 2011  50th Anniversary Mt. Kilimanjaro climb – celebration drinks at  the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi at 7pm

Three Old Cambrians will be celebrating their 50th anniversary climb of Mt Kilimanjaro . . . . . in the bar at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel from 7pm on Monday 5th Sept 2011, and welcome Old Cambrians to join them for a drink. In addition to Martin Langley (Nicholson 1956-61) there will be John Carne (Nicholson 1957-61) who both summitted in 1961 on an Outward Bound course, and Peter 'Samaki' Salmon (1956-61) who also summitted in 1961 but with a different group. Also, joining them on the climb will be Andrew Langley (Nicholson 1958-62) and his wife Ann. All Old Cambrians are welcome to give a ‘pat on the back’ to these very fit wazee. Advance Notice - Old Cambrian Society (UK) – Date of the next London Reunion is Friday 20th April 2012.

It will take place at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London and as in previous years we expect many Old Cambrians to travel from around the world to attend this premier event. More details will be published in December 2011, but in the meantime I am accepting provisional bookings for tickets.

That's all for now!
