Old Cambrian Society "e-Newsletter" - August 2005

e-Newsletter - Aug 2005

Dear Old Cambrian,

It's News time yet again, so here we go.

For your diaries - Future OCS events
Old Cambrian Society (Kenya)Annual Dinner/Dance Friday, 7th October 2005
I do not have any firm details yet of this event, but as soon as I have something definite to report I will let you all know

Old Cambrian Society (UK)Annual Dinner - Friday, 28th April 2006
This will be held at the RAF Club, Piccadilly, London and will be hosted by R. Alan Murdoch (Rhodes 1950). Further details will be made available by December, but please make sure you have the date penciled in your diaries.
If you are planning a gathering/reunion of Old Cambrians, please let me know so that I can advertise it in an e-Newsletter and on the web site.
Reports and photos of recently held OCS events are always published on the web site at: http://www.oldcambrians.com/PhotosReunions.html . Please visit that page to see what your fellow Old Cambrians around the world are getting up to.

Capt. Nicholson (Headmaster 1925-1937) - several Old Cambrians are in the process of acquiring information on Capt. Nicholson, with a view to producing an article along the lines of the highly successful Philip Fletcher tribute. If you have recollections, memories, anecdotes, etc. about the reign of Capt. Nicholson as Headmaster of our school, please let me know and I will put you in touch with those doing all the research (Brian McIntosh, Christopher Collier-Wright and Ron Bullock)

Impala Project - placing all Impala magazines on CD/DVD
At long last this project is getting off the ground, thanks to the very enthusiastic (or is he mad??!!) Martin Langley (Nicholson 1956-61). Believe me, this is a monumental task that Martin is taking on, but he is approaching it in a truly professional manner, and the end result will be SUPERB. Please see the web page for more details (http://www.oldcambrians.com/impala.html), and I make a request to everyone to help me to gather together a complete set of Impalas prior to going into production.
In summary, we plan to have them available for sale by April 2006, and they will cost US$30 / £17 .
This CD/DVD is a must have for all Old Cambrians as the Impala magazines over the years tell the complete story of life at the school. I expect demand to be very high. However, I do need to put a figure on the anticipated demand so that we produce the right number, and not be left with too many in stock. Therefore, please drop me an e-mail if you are interested in acquiring a copy of this truly unique historical record of our great school.

Martin Langley (Nicholson 1956-1961) - will be traveling in Australia from the end of August.
He would really like to meet up with fellow Old Cambrians during his travels, so if you're interested in meeting up for a reunion, please e-mail him: Martin Langley

New Book by Old Cambrian!!      Stan Bleazard (Grigg/Rhodes/Scott 1945-8)  has produced a new book  - Sunset Tales of Safariland . For more details, please see: https://s17.2coolweb.com/trophyroombooks/trbpubs/sunsettales.htm

Obituary - Alan "Pansy" Potter (Staff 1950s & 60s) - Alan passed away on 15th August 2005. His funeral takes place on Wednesday 24th August at 10.30 am at the Porchester Crematorium, just north of Portsmouth, England. An Obituary notice has been published on the web site (http://www.oldcambrians.com/Obituary-Potter,Alan.html) and I welcome any memories from those of you who remember him.

Registrations & Photos - I continue to receive a good number of new registrations every week for the Alumni section of the web site. Please keep passing the word to Old Cambrians you know have not yet signed-up with me. I'm also encouraged to see that there are still lots of photos out there, so please keep them coming. They will be published as and when I have some time to process them on to the web site.

That's all for now!
