   Australia Reunion - October 2004

Australia Reunion - October 2004

For the fifth year running Brian Turner and Dave Lichtenstein will be organising the two popular events in Sydney, Australia, customarily scheduled for a weekend around the infamous date of the 20th October:

Kenya Regiment Association Australia
Annual Curry Dinner

Sydney, Australia
Saturday, 23rd October 2004

at the Banjara Restaurant, Crows Nest

This regular event on the N S W Calender, as part of a combined weekend with EA Schools, will be held in Sydney again this year. Though naturally geared for the few Sydney-based Members, it is always intended as a National - if not International - event. Hope springs eternal each year and we look forward to welcoming others, from outer regions, with Regimental and Old School Tie connections, to our famous Harbour City at this particular and superb time of the year

Please let Brian Turner have your confirmation that you are coming -- ASAP.

All ( East African ) Schools Annual Picnic Day
Sydney, Australia
From 9.00am Sunday, 24th October 2004

Once again our traditional picnic will be held at the same venue and same time of the year - Lane Cove River National Park - where we have established a bit of a Beach Head ( or more correctly River Head ) over the years, with various East African type gatherings - a good resting place with no need for change!

This also continues to be part of the double header week-end with the Kenya Regiment Association of Australia under the baton of Brian Turner having their curry dinner on the Saturday. You and your "Bwana" (or "Memsahib" as the case may be - may be even "totos", grand "totos", etc.) are cordially invited to join fellow East Africans at the fifth consecutive All East African Schools Picnic at the Lane Cove National Park on Sunday, 24th October. If you would like to savour the flavour of last year's picnic please point your Web Browser to www.acay.com.au/~nicko/East_African_Schools/4th/test.html

The venue (as in previous years) is the shed at Illoura 2. If you need a map and/or bus timetable, they can be e-mailed to you separately on request. (Bus 545 departs and arrives Chatswood Station every hour). Note that while you still will be able to walk up to the venue from Fullers Bridge end (where the bus stops are located) via Lady Game Drive and across the weir, you can only now drive into the Park from the de Burgh's end of the Park via Lane Cove Road. This is because of work being undertaken for the Chatswood to Parramatta rail link. Driving is easy as the venue is the last stop just past the boat shed.

For those of you who have not been there before. There is shelter in case it rains. There are also "kuni" barbeques with "kuni" fallen from trees available as well as tables and benches (for those of you versed in grammar or chainsaws you can indeed use them as "kuni" - but not otherwise recommended :-). If you want to bring your own barbeque/picnic gear please feel free to do so.

Note from Dave Lichtenstein who organises these events: "Regrettably I won't be there this year as I will actually be on safari in East Africa. We still have room for others to join us on that safari. If you have any queries etc you can still contact me till the end of August. Thereafter the organisation of the picnic (if any is required) is in good hands under the conductorship of Steve Taylor ex-Westlands Primary School and Prince of Wales School.

Also we always seem to get a good turn-out of Loreto Old Girls. In case any of them are not aware, there is a special reunion planned for them later in the year in Sydney on Sunday 7th November. The contact person for this event is Margaret Knowlden."
