Memories of School: First day at Junior House: I arrived at school in the
evening and, on reporting to Junior House prefects common room, was informed
by prefects present that they were the "Hells Angels." I laughed
hysterically. I was the only one amused - Hells Angels didn't see the
joke...and there's the small matter of street cred. I was commanded to do
MANY pushups; part two of my punishment was to deliver tea to the Angels for
the next few days. Blame the SYSTEM not the wannabe Angels!
Since leaving School: I obtained my Bachelors degree
(Chemistry) from the University of Nairobi in 1980; worked in Nairobi for
about five years; then completed my MBA in the U.S in 1988. Following a
short (two-year) stint on Wall Street (Kellner & DiLeo), I returned to Kenya
for 1½ years. In 1993, I relocated to the U.S. and worked as a financial
services consultant for five years.
Since 1997, I've worked at Empire State
Development Corporation, a New York state corporation involved in major
commercial and retail projects in the economic development arena, where I am
a vice president.
