Many memories; sneaking in to the valley next to Hawke House for a "fag"
and sometimes a beer from the duka in the valley. Building a hide out in the
valley where we could smoke and having a drink without being seen and which was
later destroyed by the Police, who apparently thought it was some sort of terrorist
hide-out! Firework night at school, with rockets going off down the dorm',
Peter Eddy, Chris Kerr and Andrew Duncan blowing up one of the Mau - Mau watch towers one night!
Getting the first javelin record on sports day (with Tucker from Scott House).
I am now retired after being in the oil industry for some thirty - five years.
Starting in Kenya, after leaving school and doing a bit of Kenya Regiment service,
I joined Total Oil and worked in depot operations. After two years I moved to South
Africa where I lived for twelve years, working with Caltex and then Sonap, a subsidiary
of Mobil.
At the end of 1977 I moved back to the UK where I worked with Duckhams Oil
covering Devon (where I was born), Cornwall and Somerset. In January 1980 I moved to
Australia and joined Caltex with whom I remained until the end of 1999.
During that time I was involved in the marketing and the technical applications of
lubricants and went off shore to Pakistan and India from 1993 to 1994 working with
Caltex Pakistan and India.
I now live on a three acre property in the middle of the
well known wine producing Clare Valley in South Australia, where I do a bit of part time
work in the vineyards and cellar door wine sales area.
Some photos below - the rifle range, squash court, Main School and swimming pool 1962.
Also myself with POW / Kitale mates on Mount Elgon. The photo on the left is half way up
Elgon with L to R Peter Eddy( Nicholson), Rick Brendon (Scott) and myself.
The photo on the right is on the top of Elgon with L T R Peter Eddy, Rick Brendon and David
