Robert Clayton

House: Intermediate/Scott
Year: 1961-1963

I did not really have a nick name at School although I was often unkindly called "Gangles" as I shot up to my 6' 4" height by the second year and was supposedly somewhat unco-ordinated in some of my movements!!!

Started at POW in 1961 in Intermediate House when Mr Earl was the Housemaster. I was in Classes 1bi, 2bi and 3bi leaving in 1963 at the end of the year to complete my education.

Many happy memories of my time at School but some fun ones to recall:
  • For us in Scott the compulsory cross country
  • Having to dive off the top board to earn a swimming point for the house
  • Cleaning prefect's jock straps for work party duties
  • Having to go out of bounds to buy fags for certain seniors at the nearby dukka
  • Mr Armitage's daughters
  • Miss Swift - a young and attractive Biology teacher
  • Stalk's (Housemaster Mr Chadwick) inaccuracy with the cane
  • Having to bath in water already used by 10+ people!!!

After a sales management career with BT I took the opportunity to take early retirement in 2002, and for the moment I am undertaking and finishing off some projects in and around the house, and improving my golf!!!
